1. Dress correctly for all games.
2. Compliment your opponent on a good shot.
3. Admit a fluke with grace.
4. Stand still and be quiet when a player is on the mat.
5. Remain behind the mat or behind the head when it is not your turn to play. Always remember that possession of the mat passes to your opponent as soon as your team’s bowl has come to rest.
6. Keep to your own rink. Do not become a wanderer and distract other bowlers. Walk down the center of your rink when changing ends.
7. Be aware of your shadow. Do not let it mask the jack nor permit it to fall in front of the mat when a player is about to bowl.
8. Allow the player on the mat to have full view of the centerline and boundary markers.
9. Never criticize your opponent, your own team members or the green.
10. Pay attention to the game. Nothing can be more frustrating to your teammates than to have them feel that you are not giving your full attention and best efforts to the game by your lack of concentration. Save your socializing until after the game.
11. Always appear to be enjoying the game.
12. A player about to deliver a firing shot should warn the players at the head who should stand well back and warn adjacent rinks for safety purposes.
13. Greet your opponents and your own team members before the game and congratulate or compliment them at the end of play. Shaking hands before and after a match is part of the fine tradition of the game.
14. Learn the Rules of the Game and abide by them.
15. Be a gracious winner and a good loser.
16. Before play begins, know the markings of your own team’s bowls.
17. Do not move, or remove any bowl until the score has been agreed by the Vices.
18. The losing Vice or Skip should mark the scoreboard.
19. Keep vocals to a minimum and use hand signals whenever possible.
20. AFTER the mat has been placed, position all bowls at least one yard behind and to the right of the mat when facing up the rink. This will help to avoid tripping over the bowls when leaving the mat.
21. Drop neither bowl nor jack onto the playing surface.
22. Wear smooth soled shoes at all times.
23. Remember; if you can't say anything nice, say nothing.
